Hi all, I'm going to a university next year and am looking for ideas about the best choice of tech solution. I have seen the packmate and am pleased with it, so I'm thinking use one of those in lectures and have good net access, and backup to a good old desktop in dorm. Use a laptop in lectures and such is another good possibility, my only reservations there are the breakdown factor, theft factor and size. I have also heard good things about the pocket pc market, but I'm thinking this technology is not yet advanced enough that it would be a good idea to rely on it. Any thoughts? experiences? ETC Thx
Well, I heard that the pack mate is reliable and I have a friend who likes it very much. It depends what xactly you're looking for....lap tops are definitely helpful I huse one for some of my lcass work....but other smaller braille note-takers can be just as efficient. Just to keep your options open....there is the debate about braille sense versus braille notes for example, but both are very good quality pieces of equipment it's just that the braille sense has some features that the braille note doesn't have such as a dasy player, however the braille note seems to work better for some people. but if you were thinking of using a pack mate, like I said I've heard that it works pretty well as well.
yeah I've used a braille note and to be onnest am not a great fan of it. Don't know why it just rubbed me the wrong way.
I used a laptop and when it broke down I used a walkman to record and transcribed later in the assistive tech room. Alternatively you could use an ipod at those inconvenient times.
